How do I connect to Veeam Service Provider Console?

Learn more about how to connect Bocada Cloud to your Veeam Service Provider Console application

Connecting Bocada Cloud to your backup systems using Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) requires the following steps:

1. Log into Bocada Cloud

  • On the left navigation menu, click Connections, then +Add.
  • Click the Veeam Service Provider Console tile.
  • You will be able to choose either a Windows-compatible or Linux-compatible agent.
  • Follow the steps on each screen which are also explained below.

2. Download and Install the Bocada Cloud Data Collection Agent

First, you will need to download and install the Bocada Cloud Data Collection Agent in the private network where VSPC is located. The agent will connect to the VSPC system to collect data locally and send it to Bocada Cloud for reporting and monitoring.

Follow the prompts on the screen to: (1) give the agent a name, (2) download and install it,
(3-4) copy a unique Authentication key and paste it into the agent to register it, and then (5) test that the connection between the agent and Bocada Cloud is working correctly.

Note: If you are using the Windows-compatible version of the Bocada Cloud Data Collection agent, we recommend installing it on the same system (machine/server) where VSPC is installed to ease the connection process.

3. Add Connection Details

After you have successfully installed the Bocada Cloud Data Collection agent, the next screen will ask you add a few details about the connection.

  • Data Collection Agent: this field will be pre-populated with the agent you just installed; however, you can select a different agent if you have more than one set up.
  • Organization: this field will be pre-populated with your main organization (Billing Entity); however, you can select a different organization if you have more than one set up.
  • Connection Name: give this connection a name which will display in the Bocada Cloud UI and reports.

4. Enter necessary information from VSPC

Once you have successfully installed the data collection agent, you will be asked to enter information about your VSPC backup system to enable the agent to connect to it. To find that information, follow these steps:

1 - In a different browser tab or browser window, log into VSPC. Navigate to the Configuration menu (gear icon) on the top right of the page.

2 - Then, under “Server Settings” on the left menu, select “Settings”

3 - Click the “SQL Server Connection” tab at the top of the page

4 - Here you will find the values necessary for required data fields to complete the connection with Bocada Cloud:

  • Server Name (Hostname or IP Address) field = enter the first part of the “Server Name” field’s data in VSPC before the \ symbol.
  • SQL Instance = enter the second part of the “Server Name” field’s data in VSPC after the \ symbol. Bocada Cloud defaults to Veeam2016 but you can edit it to match the version you are using.
  • Database Name = enter the data in the “Database Name” field in VSPC
  • Database Authentication = select the appropriate “Authentication” type used to access VSPC (either SQL or Windows Authentication)
  • Username & Password = you will need to locate the username and password of a user with access to the VSPC system. This could be an Administrator, or a user with read-access (db_datareader) permission. A Windows Authentication user will usually be in the form of DOMAIN/username, and a SQL Authentication user will just be username
  • Time Zone = enter the Time Zone where the VSPC system is located.

5 - Click the “Next” button to test the connection.

6 - If the connection is successful, you will be asked to select how many days in the past (up to the past 8 days) of backup data you want to collect to initially populate reports and your Dashboard. Then, your connector will run data collections every hour after that point.

7 - If the connection is unsuccessful, you will be able to click the “Previous” button to edit your connection details and try again.
