How do I know if all of my resources have a backup?

Learn more about the Unprotected Resource Audit report

Bocada Cloud provides an audit - or comparison - of the resources that exist in your environment versus the resources that have a backup. The Resource Audit report shows you how many resources were identified within the inventory sources you connect to Bocada Cloud, and compares that to the backups performed by the connected backup application(s). The Resource Audit report identifies which inventory resources are not backed up (unprotected) and which are backed up (protected). This analysis is presented in a Dashboard widget linking to the Resource Audit report which includes additional detail.

Note: Only customers who have subscribed to the Pro or Ultimate subscription plans can access unprotected resource audit reporting. Customers on the Free or Standard plans, or those who have not connected an inventory source, will only see Protected resources - a list of resources with backups.

Unprotected Resource Auditing

Unprotected resource auditing starts with an inventory source. Currently Bocada Cloud supports AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and VMware vCenter.

Once you connect an inventory source, Bocada compares all resources in your inventory against backups completed in the previous 31 days to determine if all inventory resources are protected. If no backups are detected for any inventory resources during the past 31 days, they are considered unprotected.

Resource Audit Report

The Resource Audit standard report features four tabs:

1 - Protected resources - this tab displays two things:

a. If you have a connected inventory source, it will display inventory resources protected by connected backup applications.

b. It also displays resources backed up by connected backup application(s) that may not be in an inventory source.

Note: The default data range for analysis of backup activity is 31 days, but you can edit criteria to see a different date range.

2 - Unprotected resources - if you have a connected inventory source, it will display inventory resources without any backups performed by connected backup applications.

This report tab gives you the ability to select one or more unprotected resources to "ignore" and move to the Ignored Resources tab. For example, if a resource is a development or test machine that doesn't need to be protected, it can be ignored.

3 - Ignored resources - resources that you chose to exclude from the Unprotected tab.

4 - All resources - This is a comprehensive list which includes all protected, unprotected, and ignored inventory resources, as well as backup resources not found in inventory sources.

Inventory Sources

Bocada Cloud supports the following inventory sources - VMware vCenter, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud - with the ability to add support for other inventory sources (e.g. ServiceNow CMDB) by request.

Inventory resources without backups (e.g. unprotected resources) are not billed or charged in the monthly Bocada Cloud subscription.
