How do I connect to a backup system running Linux?

Bocada Cloud supports backup applications installed on Linux-based systems with a Linux-compatible data collection agent.

Bocada Cloud users can connect to installed backup applications on systems running Windows or Linux using the appropriate version of the Data Collection Agent

How-to Steps

  1. In Bocada Cloud, start by clicking Connections on the left navigation menu, and selecting +Add to connect to an installed backup application.
  2. Select the backup application you want to connect to for data collection, monitoring and reporting.
  3. Select Install a new agent and read an overview of how to set up the connection, then click the Next button. This will show you the requirements for both Windows and Linux versions of the data collection agent. Click the Next button.
  4. Enter a name for the Data Collection Agent you are creating which will appear in your list of agents in Bocada Cloud.
  5. Select either the Linux (DEB) or Linux (RPM) version of the agent by clicking the appropriate tab. Then, follow the on-screen instructions. Once the agent is downloaded, installed and registered, test the connection to ensure it is working properly. Then, click the Next button and you will be asked to enter details of the backup system to complete the connection.

Requirements for the Data Collection Agent on systems running Linux
  • The agent must be installed on a machine running the latest versions of Alpine, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE Leap, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Enterprise Linux or Ubuntu. See the complete list of operating systems and versions here.
  • The machine must be running 24x7 to ensure proper data collection
  • If your machine is running under a firewall, please allow outbound connections to the host backup-api.cloud.bocada.com, port 443
  • If your machine is running under a proxy server, please set the proxy settings in the Bocada Cloud Data Collection Agent after the installation

Recommendations

The Bocada Cloud Data Collection Agent is built with flexibility in mind and supports multiple configurations to fit your private network infrastructure.

We recommend installing the Data Collection Agent on the backup system when possible as it simplifies the connection.

In cases where installation on a backup system is not preferred or possible, a single data collection agent can be installed on any machine to collect data from multiple backup systems within the same private network.
