How do I connect Bocada Cloud to Cove Data Protection (by N-able)?

Collect, monitor and report on backup data from Cove Data Protection in a few easy steps

Bocada Cloud's connector for Cove Data Protection enables API-based data collection and reporting. To connect to Cove, log into Bocada Cloud and follow these steps:

  1. Go to Connections on the left navigation menu and click +Add to create a new connection. Then select Cove from the list of backup applications.
  2. Connection Name: Enter a name for the connection which will be displayed in Bocada Cloud reports and UI. You can name it whatever you like; however, we recommend it includes a reference to your Cove instance.
  3. Username, Password & Customer Name: Next, you will enter a few required fields from your Cove application to link Bocada Cloud with Cove through a secure API connection. Connection Name is internal to Bocada Cloud to help you understand the collected backup data in the UI and not a value required for the Cove API connection.
    1. Username & Password: this should be an administrator user that has access to all tenant data in the Cove application.
    2. Customer Name: this is likely the name of your company who is paying for the subscription to Cove. It must be entered into Bocada Cloud exactly as it is in the Cove application to ensure the API connection is successful.
      • For example, Bocada pays to have the Cove Data Protection application in our lab for testing purposes. When we connect Bocada Cloud to Cove in the lab, the Customer Name field = Bocada LLC
  4. Connect and Collect Data: After you have entered the required data fields, click the Connect button. This will initiate the connection between Bocada Cloud and your Cove Data Protection account. If the information you have entered is correct, Bocada Cloud will discover tenant information from Cove. If there is more than one tenant, it will automatically create an Organization in Bocada Cloud for each tenant which you will be able to review and edit as needed.
    1. Multi-tenant data collection: The Cove connector supports multi-tenant data collection. That means, it will collect data from all tenants you have set up in Cove with a single connection. The tenant names, and backup data associated with each tenant, will be collected and mapped to Organizations in Bocada Cloud. You will be able to review and edit the association between each Cove tenant and Bocada Cloud organization to segment the data in reports and dashboards appropriately.
      • For example, MSPs often set up a tenant for each of their customers within the Cove application. A single connection between Bocada Cloud and Cove will collect data from all of their customers (tenants), mapping each customer/tenant name to an Organization in Bocada Cloud. That way, they can view and manage each customer's individual backup information in the Bocada Cloud UI.
  5. Once data collection is complete, you will see backup data results in the Bocada Cloud Dashboard and Reports. Data collection will automatically run every hour and pull the latest Cove backup results into Bocada Cloud.
  6. If there is a problem with the connection between Bocada Cloud and Cove, you will see an error message. Click "Details" on the error message to see more information about what occurred. You can also click the Previous button to view and edit the data you entered. A few common errors include:
    1. An incorrectly entered username and/or password.
    2. The user (whose username and password was entered) does not have administrator access to Tenant data.
    3. An incorrectly entered Customer Name.
