How do I connect Bocada Cloud to Cove Data Protection (by N-able)?
Collect, monitor and report on backup data from Cove Data Protection in a few easy steps
Bocada Cloud's connector for Cove Data Protection enables API-based data collection and reporting.
Before creating the connection in Bocada Cloud, confirm a few prerequisites and create a dedicated API user in Cove.
Confirm Cove prerequisites
Before you begin, verify that:
- You can log into the Cove Management Console using a SuperUser or Administrator account.
- You know which top-level (parent) Cove customer contains the customers and backup data you want to collect.
- You can create an API user with the Administrator role.
Create an API user in Cove
Note: the Cove connector supports multi-tenant data collection and mapping of Cove tenants (customers) to the Organizations set up in Bocada Cloud. If you have a multi-tenant setup in Cove, create the API user under your top-level Cove customer (parent) so Bocada Cloud can discover the customers/tenants beneath it.
N-able provides general instructions for creating API users in the following article: Add Users in Management Console
1. Log into the Cove Management Console.
2. In the left navigation menu, select Management > Users > API Users.
Cove Management > Users > API Users
3. At the top of the page, open the Customer dropdown.
4. Select the top-level Cove customer containing the customers and backup data you want Bocada Cloud to collect. Note: For a multi-tenant Cove environment, select the parent customer.

Select the top-level Cove customer
5. Select Add API User.
6. Configure the API user:
- Customer: Confirm that the correct top-level customer (parent) is selected.
- Login name: Enter a descriptive login name, such as CoveBocada.
- Role: Select Administrator.
7. Click the Save and continue button.

9. Click the Copy and close button after saving the token.

Note: API users can access the Cove API but cannot log into the Cove Management Console.
Add the Cove connection in Bocada Cloud
After creating the API user:
1. In Bocada Cloud’s left navigation menu, select Connections.
2. Select +Add to create a connection.
3. Select the Cove Data Protection tile.
4. Enter the connection details:
- Organization: Select the Bocada Cloud Organization under which the connection will be managed.

- Password: Enter the API user token generated by Cove.

How does multi-tenant data collection work?
The Cove connector supports multi-tenant data collection through a single connection.
When the API user is created under the top-level Cove customer, Bocada Cloud discovers the accessible child customers and their associated backup data. Each Cove customer is then created or mapped to an Organization in Bocada Cloud.
This enables an MSP to:
- Connect its Cove environment once.
- Collect backup data from multiple managed customers.
- Separate each customer’s data using Bocada Cloud Organizations.
- Filter reports and dashboards by customer Organization.
After the initial data collection is complete, Cove backup data will appear in Bocada Cloud reports and dashboards. Data collection automatically runs every hour to retrieve the latest available backup results.
What should I check if the Cove connection fails?
If Bocada Cloud cannot connect to Cove, confirm that:
-
The API user was created under the correct top-level Cove customer.
-
The API user has the Administrator role.
-
The Username field contains the API user’s Login name, not the username of a regular Cove console user.
-
The Password field contains the API token, not a Cove console password.
-
The Customer Name matches the top-level customer name in Cove exactly.
-
The API user has access to all customers and backup data you want to collect.
If the token was not saved when the API user was created, delete the user in Cove and create a new API user to generate another token.
If you have issues connecting to Cove after trying these steps, create a Support Ticket in Bocada Cloud, or contact us.
