Can I check to see if Veeam backup jobs are complying with the backup policy?

Learn how to automate backup policy compliance for Veeam Backup & Replication

If you connect Bocada Cloud to your Veeam Backup & Replication system(s), you can automatically view whether the backup jobs are adhering to the backup policy without any manual setup or configuration.

The Backup Policy Compliance report helps you automate auditing of your Veeam backups to more easily identify backups that are out of compliance, including missed backup jobs that didn't run when they should have based on the assigned policy.

This new report is available to customers subscribed to the Ultimate plan.

How does it work?

Bocada Cloud uses a direct database connection to Veeam Backup & Replication systems which enables expanded data collection capabilities, including collecting backup policy information automatically. You do not have to enter the backup policy manually into Bocada Cloud - the policy information will be collected from the Veeam application and compared to backup activity and results to assess policy compliance.

Once you have connected Bocada Cloud to at least one Veeam Backup & Replication server, the report will automatically populate with data without any additional steps.

Understanding the Report

By default, the report displays the information by Organization, then Connection, then Policy. Each policy will display the policy name, and a brief description of the policy appended to the name in parentheses (such as "Daily - Everyday" or "Daily - Weekdays" etc.) Beneath each policy, the resources attached to that policy are displayed with resource name and resource detail information.

By default, the report shows the last 7 days, but you can edit the report criteria to show any date range. You can also change the Compliance View field to "All Data" instead of "Exceptions Only" which is the default.

Each day will display an icon/symbol:

  • Green checkmark = backup job was successful and complied with the backup policy
  • Blue question mark = the scheduled backup appears to have been missed. No matching backup log was found for that date.
  • Red X = backup job failed and therefore did not comply with the backup policy.

Click on any of the icons/symbols to view a more detailed description of what occurred
