How do I connect to Backblaze Storage?

Learn more about how to connect Bocada Cloud to your Backblaze B2 Storage system for monitoring and reporting

You can monitor and report on your Backblaze B2 (S3-compatible) storage data by connecting it to Bocada Cloud through a REST API.

Data collected will populate standard Storage reports and can be viewed alongside storage data from additional products.

To create the connection, follow the steps below.

1 - Login to the Backblaze Console

You will need to gather some information from Backblaze to configure the connection with Bocada Cloud. Login to the Backblaze console at: https://secure.backblaze.com/b2_buckets.htm

A - Verify the Backblaze Endpoint URL

Your Backblaze B2 S3-compatible endpoint follows the format of s3.REGION.backblazeb2.com (e.g., s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com). See Backblaze S3-compatible API docs for all regions.

  • Copy the endpoint URL and paste it to a notepad or other document as you will need it when you configure the connection in Bocada Cloud.

B - Generate a Backblaze Spaces Key ID & Application Key

  • Navigate to App Keys and create a new application key.
  • The keyID is your Key ID to enter in Bocada Cloud, and the generated key is your Application Key to enter in Bocada Cloud. We recommend creating a dedicated read-only application key for monitoring purposes.
  • COPY the Key ID and Application Key and paste them to a notepad or other document as you will need it when you configure the connection in Bocada Cloud.

C - Find your Backblaze Account ID

  • Your Backblaze Account ID can be found at the top of the App Keys page in the B2 Console.

  • COPY the Account ID and paste it to a notepad or other document as you will need it when you configure the connection in Bocada Cloud.

2 - Login to Bocada Cloud

  • In Bocada Cloud's left navigation menu, select Connections, then +Add
  • Click the "Storage Applications" tab, and/or click the tile called Backblaze B2.
  • Organization: This field will display if you have already created one or more organizations in Bocada Cloud to segment data by your customers, divisions or departments. It serves to associate the data from the Backblaze connection with the appropriate organization for reporting purposes. If you haven't created an organization yet, the Organization field will not display.
  • Connection Name: enter a name for this connection which will display in the Bocada Cloud UI as the name for this Backblaze account. You can name it whatever you like; we recommend including a reference to the account name.
  • Endpoint: Enter / paste the Backblaze endpoint URL for your region (that you copied above in Step 1-A).
  • Key ID: Enter / paste the Key ID you copied in Step 1-B above.
  • Application Key: Enter / paste the Application Key you copied in Step 1-B above.
  • Account ID: Enter / paste the Account ID you copied in Step 1-C above.

3 - Test Connection

Click the Connect button to test the connection between Bocada Cloud and Backblaze.

If the connection is successful, data collection will begin and you will be able to see results in the Storage Utilization report.  Then, the connector will run data collections every hour after that point.

If the connection is unsuccessful, you will be able to click the “Previous” button to edit your connection details and try again.

If you have issues connecting to Backblaze after trying these steps, create a Support Ticket in Bocada Cloud, or contact us.
