[Reports](https://help.bocada.com/knowledge/reports?hsLang=en) # How does the AI Missed Backup Analysis report work? ## Learn how Bocada's AI Missed Backup Analysis report helps identify potentially missed backup jobs that didn't run when expected The *AI Missed Backup Analysis* flags days when a resource's backup job was expected to run, but no backup activity was detected by Bocada Cloud. It uses past backup history, collected data related to backup schedules, and learnings from user-supplied feedback to improve its predictions over time.  ### **Improved Functionality** This report has been significantly enhanced since it was initially launched based on customer feedback and improved AI capabilities, including enhancements such as: - Supporting evidence for each flagged missed backup is provided, including backup history and the last successful backup (as well as the backup schedule for Veeam B&R) to better judge its accuracy - Users can review a missed backup flag and provide feedback in two clicks. - User-entered feedback is displayed on the report grid to show which missed backup flags have already been reviewed. - A new "Report missed backup" option can record a missed backup that the AI analysis did not flag. The report shows it, and the AI learns from it. - For Veeam Backup & Replication, backup policy information is included in the AI analysis to factor in backup schedules, improving accuracy of results. ### **Explaining Report Results** The report shows one row per resource (a server, VM, database, etc.) and one column per day. Each cell in the report shows its review state. The markers differ in shape and color so colorblind users can tell them apart and they still work in black-and-white prints.  ![blue checkmark-1](https://help.bocada.com/hs-fs/hubfs/blue%20checkmark-1.png?width=25&height=26&name=blue%20checkmark-1.png) a blue question mark icon is a ***flag*** indicating the resource's historical backup activity suggests a backup was expected on that day, but none was recorded. A flag is a **potential** miss, not proof - it should be reviewed and feedback entered to confirm or dismiss it so the AI can learn over time. Only flags with a probability of at least 60% are displayed. Change the probability percentage in the report criteria to see more or fewer flags. ✅ - a green checkmark icon means that a resource had a successful backup job that day. ❌ - a red X icon means that all backup jobs for the resource failed that day.  ⬜ - a blank space means that a backup job was not recorded for that day and was not flagged by the AI as expected to run (for example, backups not scheduled to run on a weekend days).  *Note: see below to learn how to report a missed backup that was not flagged by AI analysis.*  ### **![](https://help.bocada.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-08-2026-06-13-36-7270-PM.png?width=670&height=221&name=image-png-Oct-08-2026-06-13-36-7270-PM.png)** ### **Review & Give Feedback** #### **Review supporting evidence** Click a blue question mark flag icon to review the information that the AI used to identify it as a potentially missed backup. - **Backup history strip** - displays one square per day in the report's date range. Green means a backup ran and grey means nothing was recorded. - **Last activity** - the date of the last matching backup job (full, incremental, copy, etc.) displays and how many days ago it occurred. If there were none in the range, the system looks further back. - **Schedule** -products that collect backup policies (currently Veeam B&R), the panel shows the current schedule, when it was collected, and a link to the *Backup Policy Compliance* report. Otherwise, it says *"Schedule unknown."* #### **Enter Feedback** Click one of the provided feedback response buttons, such as "Prediction is correct," "Prediction is wrong," "Target has been removed" or "Resource has been removed." The panel now lists each prediction with its own answer buttons, and the cell in the report grid shows how many have been answered.  \- "Target has been removed" and "Resource has been removed" do more than close one flag. They stop all future missed backup flags for that target, or for every target of the resource.  ### **Report a Missed Backup that the AI analysis did not flag** If you know that a backup was missed but the AI analysis did not flag it, you can record it to improve future predictions. There are two ways to do this: 1 - On the report toolbar in the top right, click the **⊕ Report missed backup** button. Search for any resource you can access (even one not on the report), then pick a past date when the backup was missed and should have run. You can optionally enter a note.  2 - Click an empty cell on an existing row in the report. A pop-up form opens with the resource and date already filled in. ![](https://help.bocada.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Oct-08-2026-08-40-06-3304-PM.png?width=325&height=297&name=undefined-Oct-08-2026-08-40-06-3304-PM.png) Once the missed backup is reported by a user, a blue person icon will display on that day in the report grid. If a missed backup was reported in error, it can be withdrawn. Click the person icon again and click the "withdraw" button to remove it.  ### **Review status visible on the report grid** After a flag is reviewed, the resulting status is displayed in the report grid so it is clear to all users that it doesn't need to be reviewed again.  **![](https://help.bocada.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-08-2026-08-23-24-5115-PM.png?width=670&height=75&name=image-png-Oct-08-2026-08-23-24-5115-PM.png)** Hovering over a reviewed result shows the feedback that was given, who gave it and when, for example "Confirmed miss · Backup Admin User · 10/06/2026 11:13:02 (UTC)".  | Icon /Indicator | Meaning | What the user should do | | --- | --- | --- | | Blue **?** | Potential missed backup, awaiting review | Open it and answer | | Blue **!** | Confirmed missed backup (a user entered feedback that the prediction is correct) | Check the backup system to remediate | | Blue person | Missed backup reported by a user (the AI did not flag it) | Nothing; the AI learns from it | | **⊘** (ban) | Dismissed: a user said the prediction is wrong | Nothing; the AI learns from it | | Crossed eye | Suppressed: the target or resource was removed | Nothing; future flags are stopped | | **?** 1/3 | Partially reviewed: some predictions in the cell answered | Open it and answer the rest | ### **Dashboard Widget** The *AI Missed Backups Analysis* Dashboard widget displays a number of resources with a potentially missed backup (those that were flagged), or the total number of potentially missed backup jobs.
